Snow leopards are being endangered and people need to take a stand to protect them! There are many reasons snow leopards are in trouble. The first reason is that the bones skin and organs of large cats are valuable in traditional Asian medicine. Currently, there are effective measures of poaching, and loss of habitat in Jammu and Kashmir. Those are things which are made out of Snow Leopards. The snow leopard population for Jammu and Kashmir increasingly become under pressure as a result of poaching for furs, loss of habitat caused by deforestation and loss of food sources caused by similar environmental pressures.
Endangered Species List
The snow leopard is on the endangered species list. The most serious threat to the snow leopard is loss of habitat. Snow leopards are also hunted for their fur. Hunting snow leopards is illegal, except in Mongolia. There are an estimated 3,000 to 10,000 left in the wild. More than 150 snow leopards live in zoos. They are successfully bred in captivity. Snow leopards can live in captivity for 15 years.
